The one where the nits came back

Do I really need to explain any further? Well, if I didn’t it would make for a pretty average post wouldn’t it!!! So read on dear reader, read on.

A few weeks ago we had our first outbreak of head lice with Miss B coming home with eggs and one adult lice in her hair.  We treated it, did the requisite days of laundry that followed and pushed it back into the dark recesses of our minds.

This evening, as I turned the lights out for bed she uttered the dreaded words AGAIN – Mum my head’s itchy.

I froze.  After all, I had only treated it last night with the so called defence spray after she complained of the same thing.  I spent 40 mins… FORTY WHOLE MINUTES combing through her hair in sign of anything and had concluded that the white specks were simply the dry skin from the healing scabs leftover from the first lot of lice.

So I dragged her out of bed and back into the kitchen where the light was best and began another expedition through the tresses in search for the enemy.  I was just about to call it a day when I found one… a tiny, little, obviously just hatched but moving-with-legs-and-everything headline! F*&K No!!!! Well that’s what I said in my head… Out loud I uttered, it’s a bug.

Miss B was excited!

Did you find a bug Mum?

Is it a big one Mum?

Can I see?

Mum, can I touch it?

No, No, NO and NO!

In total I got a total of 4 and then did the defence spray treatment again.  The treatment that claims to be proven effective.

I beg to differ!

I’m now about to embark on a frenzy of evening laundry which means I have the whole treatment and laundry juggling act to look forward to over the coming days again.

And of course, as these things go, to top it off I have a head cold, which always seem to occur on the day I have to give a presentation to senior execs so I am completely NOT in the mood.

Now, what was that I was saying about the universe sending us signs yesterday?

It’s drawing towards the end of the week – how are you holding up? Do you think that wine is a good remedy for a stuffy head and runny nose?

Yuk. Head lice are awful aren’t they? A bit like cockroaches — I’m not sure what purpose they have; apart from to p**s everyone off. I hope you manage to get rid of them! Thanks so much for linking up with #TwinklyTuesday — hope to see you again next week! x

  2. Oh my goodness! I have yet to deal with lice *knocks on wood* and good thing because I’d be so grossed out. I can’t stand bug bites so the thought of little bugs in our hair grosses me out (can you tell I don’t have a dog or cat?).

  3. I have found chemicals to be completely useless against lice. I don’t know if it’s because my daughters have such thick hair, but the ONLY thing that combs is nightly combing with a nit comb. My kids have watched more TV during their lice outbreaks that at any other point in time!! Once, I pulled over a hundred lice out of each child’s hair. They’d just returned from their grandparents, who’d told them they had lice, but didn’t do a thing about it. I was too angry to ever confront them.

Good luck ridding yourselves of the nasties!

    1. 100 lice each!!! Oh Sadia! Thankfully we’ve not had an infestation yet!! I’d be furious at the grandparents too if that had happened to me!! Hopefully they don’t come back quickly!
